Learn about Lewis & Clark

Over two hundred years ago the United States was only from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mississippi River. This was just a little land.

President Thomas Jefferson bought land from the country of France. It doubled the size of the country! President Jefferson didn’t know what he had bought so he sent Lewis & Clark to explore the land and rivers, make maps, and collect plants. He told them to get to know the Native Americans living on the land.

Lewis and Clark were soldiers and a group of soldiers went with them. This was a military expedition. Captain Clark and Captain Lewis led this special group. Lewis took his dog. I love that.

There were no roads and no cars. They went on boats and canoes. They went against the current! One of the scouts brought his wife named Sacagawea and her baby. The explorers saw bison, grizzly bears, and lots of prairie dogs. (look at the cute baby prairie dog below)

They started in Saint Louis, MO (where my twin cousins live!) and finally saw the Pacific Ocean. It took over two years! This was an incredible journey and the group was very brave.

HIP HIP HOORAY for Lewis & Clark!

Thanks to my Granddad for helping me with this blog. (and for the puzzle)
